Our company, "Formosa Mercantile Corp." was founded by Mr. Jesse Chiang and Mr. Emil Wang. It operated as an Importer/Exporter/Distributor of Animal/Vegetable Fats/ Oils and Feed Grains. We also had a branch office in Miao Li, which specialized in Citronella Oil for exportation. Our company had a market share of 80% for the exportation of this particular oil in Taiwan.

Our company had a joint venture with "Pacific Vegetable Oil Corporation," USA. It later sold its share to "Jacob Stern and Sons Inc.," USA, who perpetuated a joint venture with us to establish the firm "Formosa Bulk Terminal Co., Ltd.", and to set up two shore tanks at Wharf 15 in Keelung; each of the tanks had a capacity of 500 MT, and was employed exclusively for the storage and receiving of Animal/Vegetable Fats/Oils in bulk. This was the first shore terminal for this purpose in Taiwan. "Formosa Bulk Terminal Co., Ltd." had a 20-year lease with the Government for using the aforementioned wharf in Keelung. At the expiration of the contract in 1981, the terminal was reverted to the Government and the company's name was modified to "FMC International Corp."

Mr. Emil Wang was appointed as Managing Director of this company.

By the end of 1976, the expansion of the Taichung Harbor had been completed and our company engaged in a joint venture with "Namchow Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd.," whereupon we formed the company "Lyon Terminal Co., Ltd." to build 18 shore terminal tanks with a total capacity of 8,500 MT between Wharves 3 & 4 at the Taichung Harbor. It was set up for the purpose of not only facilitating the importation of Animal/Vegetable Fats/Oils, but also the importation and exportation of chemical products. "Lyon Terminal Co., Ltd." had a 10-year lease with the Government for these tanks until 1985, whereupon the lease expired and the terminal reverted back to the Government.
